Daily Gospel Reading for June 5, 2022 – Pentecost Sunday – Mass During the Day Bible Verse

June 5th, 2022 is the celebration day for Pentecost Sunday. The Holy Bible verses for the mass readings for this day came from the Liturgical Calendar Year 2022.

Reading 1: ACTS 2:1-11

The first reading from the Acts of the Apostles.

Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them.

They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.

Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under the sky.

When this sound was heard, the multitude came together and were bewildered, because everyone heard them speaking in his own language.

They were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Behold, aren’t all these who speak Galileans?

How do we hear, everyone in our own native language?

Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians-we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!”

Responsorial Psalm: PS 104:1 and 24, 29-30, 31 and 34

Response: You send out your Spirit and they are created. You renew the face of the ground.

Bless Yahweh, my soul. Yahweh, my God, you are very great. You are clothed with honor and majesty.

Yahweh, how many are your works! In wisdom, you have made them all. The earth is full of your riches.

R: You send out your Spirit and they are created. You renew the face of the ground.

You hide your face; they are troubled. You take away their breath; they die and return to the dust.

You send out your Spirit and they are created. You renew the face of the ground.

R: You send out your Spirit and they are created. You renew the face of the ground.

Let Yahweh’s glory endure forever. Let Yahweh rejoice in his works.

Let my meditation be sweet to him. I will rejoice in Yahweh.

R: You send out your Spirit and they are created. You renew the face of the ground.

Reading 2: 1 COR 12:3B-7, 12-13 or ROM 8:8-17

The second reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.

No one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” but by the Holy Spirit.

Now there are various kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.

There are various kinds of service, and the same Lord.

There are various kinds of workings, but the same God who works all things in all.

But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the profit of all.

For as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ.

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all given to drink into one Spirit.

or second reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.

Those who are in the flesh can’t please God.

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if any man doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.

If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God.

For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God; and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.

Sequence: "Veni Sancte Spiritus" (Come Holy Spirit)

Come, thou Holy Spirit, come, and from thy celestial home shed a ray of light divine; come, thou Father of the poor, come, thou source of all our store, come, within our hearts to shine.

Thou of comforters the best, thou the soul’s most welcome guest, sweet refreshment here below; in our labour rest most sweet, grateful coolness in the heat, solace in the midst of woe.

O most blessed Light divine, shine within these hearts of thine, and our inmost being fill; where thou art not, man hath naught, nothing good in deed or thought, nothing free from taint of ill.

Heal our wounds; our strength renew; on our dryness pour thy dew; wash the stains of guilt away; bend the stubborn heart and will; melt the frozen, warm the chill; guide the steps that go astray.

On the faithful, who adore and confess thee, evermore in thy sevenfold gifts descend: Give them virtue’s sure reward, give them thy salvation, Lord, give them joys that never end.

Gospel of the Day: JN 20:19-23 or JN 14:15-16, 23B-26

From the gospel scripture according to John.

When therefore it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were locked where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the middle and said to them, “Peace be to you.”

When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad when they saw the Lord.

Jesus therefore said to them again, “Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.”

When he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit!

If you forgive anyone’s sins, they have been forgiven them. If you retain anyone’s sins, they have been retained.”

or from the gospel verse according to John.

“If you love me, keep my commandments.

I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever.”

“If a man loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

He who doesn’t love me doesn’t keep my words. The word which you hear isn’t mine, but the Father’s who sent me.”

“I have said these things to you while still living with you.

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you.”
