It’s this time of the year once again to celebrate the solemn transfer of Jesus Christ’s image from Intramuros to Quiapo Church. However, for the third straight year, the traditional annual procession Traslación of the Black Nazarene will not be held on January 9 as a safety precaution to avoid spreading of the coronavirus.
As we heard the news of new variants of the virus spreading, let us hold on to our faith in our Lord God that this will end soon. Let us pray the Oratio Imperata for COVID-19.
Despite the cancellation of the traditional procession, the celebration will continue not just in the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, also known as the Parish of Saint John the Baptist, but also at the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta as well as nationwide via a “localized” Traslación 2023.
The Quiapo Church will have nine-day Novena Masses starting December 31, 2022 to January 8, 2023. Also on January 8, there will be a Walk of Faith activity from the Quirino Grandstand up to the church.

The Traslación 2023 Theme is Jesus Christ’s words from Luke 11:28.
But he said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it.”
The Traslación 2023 Catechism is from Exodus 20:7.
“You shall not misuse the name of Yahweh your God, for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name.”
