The 3rd of May, 2024, Friday is the Feast of Saints Philip and James, Apostles. The Holy Bible verses for the mass readings for this day came from the Year 2024 of Liturgical Calendar.
Reading 1: 1 COR 15:1-8
The first reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.
Now I declare to you, brothers, the Good News which I preached to you, which also you received, in which you also stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold firmly the word which I preached to you-unless you believed in vain.
For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
Then he appeared to over five hundred brothers at once, most of whom remain until now, but some have also fallen asleep.
Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all, as to the child born at the wrong time, he appeared to me also.
Responsorial Psalm: PS 19:1-2, 3-4
Response: Their voice has gone out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world.
The heavens declare the glory of God. The expanse shows his handiwork.
Day after day they pour out speech, and night after night they display knowledge.
R: Their voice has gone out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world.
There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.
Their voice has gone out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world.
R: Their voice has gone out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world.
Gospel of the Day: JN 14:6-14
From the gospel verse according to John.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.
If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him and have seen him.”
Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you such a long time, and do you not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How do you say, ‘Show us the Father?’
Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I tell you, I speak not from myself; but the Father who lives in me does his works.
Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
Most certainly I tell you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father.
Whatever you will ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it.”
