The 30th of September, 2023, Saturday is the Memorial of Saint Jerome, Priest and Doctor of the Church. The Holy Bible verses for the mass readings for this day came from the Liturgical Calendar of the Year 2023.
Reading 1: ZEC 2:1-5, 10-11A
The first reading from the Book of Zechariah.
I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand.
Then I asked, “Where are you going?” He said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.”
Behold, the angel who talked with me went out, and another angel went out to meet him, and said to him, “Run, speak to this young man, saying, ‘Jerusalem will be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it.
For I,’ says Yahweh, ‘will be to her a wall of fire around it, and I will be the glory in the middle of her.’_”
“‘Sing and rejoice, daughter of Zion! For behold, I come and I will dwell within you,’ says Yahweh.
Many nations shall join themselves to Yahweh in that day, and shall be my people; and I will dwell among you.”
Responsorial Psalm: JER 31:10, 11-12AB, 13
Response: ‘And keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.’
“Hear Yahweh’s word, you nations, and declare it in the distant islands. Say, ‘He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.’_”
R: ‘And keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.’
“For Yahweh has ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he.
They will come and sing in the height of Zion, and will flow to the goodness of Yahweh.”
R: ‘And keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.’
“Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance, the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.”
R: ‘And keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.’
Gospel of the Day: LK 9:43B-45
From the gospel scripture according to Luke.
But while all were marveling at all the things which Jesus did, he said to his disciples,
“Let these words sink into your ears, for the Son of Man will be delivered up into the hands of men.”
But they didn’t understand this saying. It was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
