The 20th of September, 2023, Wednesday is the Memorial of Saint Andrew Kim Tae-gon, Priest, and Saint Paul Chong Ha-sang and Companions, Martyrs. The Holy Bible verses for the mass readings for this day came from the Liturgical Calendar Year 2023.
Reading 1: 1 TM 3:14-16
The first reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to Timothy.
These things I write to you, hoping to come to you shortly, but if I wait long, that you may know how men ought to behave themselves in God’s house, which is the assembly of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
Without controversy, the mystery of godliness is great: God was revealed in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up in glory.
Responsorial Psalm: PS 111:1-2, 3-4, 5-6
Response: Yahweh’s works are great, pondered by all those who delight in them.
Praise Yah! I will give thanks to Yahweh with my whole heart, in the council of the upright, and in the congregation.
Yahweh’s works are great, pondered by all those who delight in them.
R: Yahweh’s works are great, pondered by all those who delight in them.
His work is honor and majesty. His righteousness endures forever.
He has caused his wonderful works to be remembered. Yahweh is gracious and merciful.
R: Yahweh’s works are great, pondered by all those who delight in them.
He has given food to those who fear him. He always remembers his covenant.
He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.
R: Yahweh’s works are great, pondered by all those who delight in them.
Gospel of the Day: LK 7:31-35
From the gospel scripture according to Luke.
“To what then should I compare the people of this generation? What are they like?
They are like children who sit in the marketplace and call to one another, saying, ‘We piped to you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned, and you didn’t weep.’
For John the Baptizer came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’
The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’
Wisdom is justified by all her children.”
