The 3rd of August, 2023 is Thursday in the Seventeenth Week of Ordinary Time. The Bible scriptures for the holy mass readings for this day came from the 2023 Liturgical Calendar.
Reading 1: EX 40:16-21, 34-38
The first reading from the Book of Exodus.
Moses did so. According to all that Yahweh commanded him, so he did.
In the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, the tabernacle was raised up.
Moses raised up the tabernacle, and laid its sockets, and set up its boards, and put in its bars, and raised up its pillars.
He spread the covering over the tent, and put the roof of the tabernacle above on it, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
He took and put the covenant into the ark, and set the poles on the ark, and put the mercy seat above on the ark.
He brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the veil of the screen, and screened the ark of the covenant, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and Yahweh’s glory filled the tabernacle.
Moses wasn’t able to enter into the Tent of Meeting, because the cloud stayed on it, and Yahweh’s glory filled the tabernacle.
When the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward, throughout all their journeys; but if the cloud wasn’t taken up, then they didn’t travel until the day that it was taken up.
For the cloud of Yahweh was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.
Responsorial Psalm: PS 84:2, 3, 4-5A and 7A, 10
Response: How lovely are your dwellings, Yahweh of Armies!
My soul longs, and even faints for the courts of Yahweh. My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
R: How lovely are your dwellings, Yahweh of Armies!
Yes, the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young, near your altars, Yahweh of Armies, my King, and my God.
R: How lovely are your dwellings, Yahweh of Armies!
Blessed are those who dwell in your house. They are always praising you.
Blessed are those whose strength is in you.
They go from strength to strength.
R: How lovely are your dwellings, Yahweh of Armies!
For a day in your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
R: How lovely are your dwellings, Yahweh of Armies!
Gospel of the Day: MT 13:47-53
From the gospel verse according to Matthew.
“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some fish of every kind, which, when it was filled, fishermen drew up on the beach. They sat down and gathered the good into containers, but the bad they threw away.
So it will be in the end of the world. The angels will come and separate the wicked from among the righteous, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Jesus said to them, “Have you understood all these things?” They answered him, “Yes, Lord.”
He said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been made a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings out of his treasure new and old things.”
When Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there.
