Daily Gospel Reading for March 14, 2023 – Tuesday in the Third Week of Lent Bible Verse

The 14th of March, 2023 is Tuesday in the Third Week of Lent. The Bible scriptures for the holy mass readings for this day came from the Year 2023 of Liturgical Calendar.

Reading 1: DN 3:25, 34-43

The first reading from the Book of Daniel with Greek Portions.

Then Azarias stood, and prayed like this. Opening his mouth in the midst of the fire he said, “Don’t utterly deliver us up, for your name’s sake. Don’t annul your covenant.

Don’t cause your mercy to depart from us, for the sake of Abraham who is loved by you, and for the sake of Isaac your servant, and Israel your holy one, to whom you promised that you would multiply their offspring as the stars of the sky, and as the sand that is on the sea shore.

For we, O Lord, have become less than any nation, and are brought low this day in all the world because of our sins.

There isn’t at this time prince, or prophet, or leader, or burnt offering, or sacrifice, or oblation, or incense, or place to offer before you, and to find mercy.

Nevertheless in a contrite heart and a humble spirit let us be accepted, like the burnt offerings of rams and bullocks, and like ten thousands of fat lambs. So let our sacrifice be in your sight this day, that we may wholly go after you, for they shall not be ashamed who put their trust in you.

And now we follow you with all our heart. We fear you, and seek your face.

Put us not to shame; but deal with us after your kindness, and according to the multitude of your mercy.

Deliver us also according to your marvelous works, and give glory to your name, O Lord. Let all those who harm your servants be confounded.”

Responsorial Psalm: PS 25:4-5AB, 6 and 7BC, 8-9

Response: Yahweh, remember your tender mercies.

Show me your ways, Yahweh. Teach me your paths.

Guide me in your truth, and teach me. For you are the God of my salvation.

R: Yahweh, remember your tender mercies.

Yahweh, remember your tender mercies and your loving kindness, for they are from old times.

Remember me according to your loving kindness, for your goodness’ sake, Yahweh.

R: Yahweh, remember your tender mercies.

Good and upright is Yahweh, therefore he will instruct sinners in the way.

He will guide the humble in justice. He will teach the humble his way.

R: Yahweh, remember your tender mercies.

Verse Before Gospel: JL 2:12-13

From the Book of Joel.

“Yet even now,” says Yahweh, “turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.”

Tear your heart and not your garments, and turn to Yahweh, your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and relents from sending calamity.

Gospel of the Day: MT 18:21-35

From the gospel verse according to Matthew.

Then Peter came and said to him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?”

Jesus said to him, “I don’t tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven.

Therefore the Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.

When he had begun to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.

But because he couldn’t pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, with his wife, his children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

The servant therefore fell down and knelt before him, saying, ‘Lord, have patience with me, and I will repay you all!’

The lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him and forgave him the debt.”

“But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him one hundred denarii, and he grabbed him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’_”

“So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay you!’

He would not, but went and cast him into prison until he should pay back that which was due.

So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were exceedingly sorry, and came and told their lord all that was done.

Then his lord called him in and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.

Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had mercy on you?’

His lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors until he should pay all that was due to him.

So my heavenly Father will also do to you, if you don’t each forgive your brother from your hearts for his misdeeds.”
