The 16th of February, 2023 is Thursday in the Sixth Week of Ordinary Time. The Bible scriptures for the holy mass readings for this day came from the 2023 Liturgical Calendar.
Reading 1: GN 9:1-13
The first reading from the Book of Genesis.
God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth.
The fear of you and the dread of you will be on every animal of the earth, and on every bird of the sky. Everything that moves along the ground, and all the fish of the sea, are delivered into your hand.
Every moving thing that lives will be food for you. As I gave you the green herb, I have given everything to you.
But flesh with its life, that is, its blood, you shall not eat.
I will surely require accounting for your life’s blood. At the hand of every animal I will require it. At the hand of man, even at the hand of every man’s brother, I will require the life of man.
Whoever sheds man’s blood, his blood will be shed by man, for God made man in his own image.
Be fruitful and multiply. Increase abundantly in the earth, and multiply in it.”
God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying, “As for me, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your offspring after you, and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the livestock, and every animal of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ship, even every animal of the earth.
I will establish my covenant with you: All flesh will not be cut off any more by the waters of the flood. There will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.”
God said, “This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it will be a sign of a covenant between me and the earth.”
Responsorial Psalm: PS 102:15-17, 18-20, 28 and 21-22
Response: From heaven, Yahweh saw the earth.
So the nations will fear Yahweh’s name, all the kings of the earth your glory.
For Yahweh has built up Zion. He has appeared in his glory.
He has responded to the prayer of the destitute, and has not despised their prayer.
R: From heaven, Yahweh saw the earth.
This will be written for the generation to come. A people which will be created will praise Yah, for he has looked down from the height of his sanctuary. From heaven, Yahweh saw the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoner, to free those who are condemned to death.
R: From heaven, Yahweh saw the earth.
“The children of your servants will continue. Their offspring will be established before you.”
That men may declare Yahweh’s name in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem, when the peoples are gathered together, the kingdoms, to serve Yahweh.
R: From heaven, Yahweh saw the earth.
Gospel of the Day: MK 8:27-33
From the gospel verse according to Mark.
Jesus went out, with his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do men say that I am?”
They told him, “John the Baptizer, and others say Elijah, but others, one of the prophets.”
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”
He commanded them that they should tell no one about him.
He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
He spoke to them openly. Peter took him and began to rebuke him.
But he, turning around and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men.”
