The 23rd of January, 2023 is Monday in the Third Week of Ordinary Time. The Bible scriptures for the holy mass readings for this day came from the 2023 Liturgical Calendar.
Reading 1: HEB 9:15, 24-28
The first reading from The Letter to the Hebrews.
For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, since a death has occurred for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, that those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
For Christ hasn’t entered into holy places made with hands, which are representations of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest enters into the holy place year by year with blood not his own, or else he must have suffered often since the foundation of the world. But now once at the end of the ages, he has been revealed to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
In as much as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment, so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
Responsorial Psalm: PS 98:1, 2-3AB, 3CD-4, 5-6
Response: Sing to Yahweh a new song, for he has done marvelous things!
Sing to Yahweh a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.
R: Sing to Yahweh a new song, for he has done marvelous things!
Yahweh has made known his salvation. He has openly shown his righteousness in the sight of the nations.
He has remembered his loving kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel.
R: Sing to Yahweh a new song, for he has done marvelous things!
All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
Make a joyful noise to Yahweh, all the earth! Burst out and sing for joy, yes, sing praises!
R: Sing to Yahweh a new song, for he has done marvelous things!
Sing praises to Yahweh with the harp, with the harp and the voice of melody.
With trumpets and sound of the ram’s horn, make a joyful noise before the King, Yahweh.
R: Sing to Yahweh a new song, for he has done marvelous things!
Gospel of the Day: MK 3:22-30
From the gospel verse according to Mark.
The scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He has Beelzebul,” and, “By the prince of the demons he casts out the demons.”
He summoned them and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan?
If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
If Satan has risen up against himself, and is divided, he can’t stand, but has an end.
But no one can enter into the house of the strong man to plunder unless he first binds the strong man; then he will plunder his house.”
“Most certainly I tell you, all sins of the descendants of man will be forgiven, including their blasphemies with which they may blaspheme; but whoever may blaspheme against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation.”-because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”
Other Celebration
An optional celebration on this day is the Memorial of Saint Marianne Cope, Virgin.
