The 27th of November, 2022 is the First Sunday of Advent. The Bible scriptures for the holy mass readings for this day came from the 2023 Liturgical Calendar.
Reading 1: IS 2:1-5
The first reading from the Book of Isaiah.
This is what Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
It shall happen in the latter days, that the mountain of Yahweh’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it.
Many peoples shall go and say, “Come, let’s go up to the mountain of Yahweh, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For the law shall go out of Zion, and Yahweh’s word from Jerusalem.
He will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples. They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.
House of Jacob, come, and let’s walk in the light of Yahweh.
Responsorial Psalm: PS 122:1-2, 3-4B, 4CD-5, 6-7, 8-9
Response: I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to Yahweh’s house!”
I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to Yahweh’s house!”
Our feet are standing within your gates, Jerusalem!
R: I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to Yahweh’s house!”
Jerusalem is built as a city that is compact together, where the tribes go up, even Yah’s tribes.
R: I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to Yahweh’s house!”
According to an ordinance for Israel, to give thanks to Yahweh’s name.
For there are set thrones for judgment, the thrones of David’s house.
R: I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to Yahweh’s house!”
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Those who love you will prosper.
Peace be within your walls, and prosperity within your palaces.
R: I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to Yahweh’s house!”
For my brothers’ and companions’ sakes, I will now say, “Peace be within you.”
For the sake of the house of Yahweh our God, I will seek your good.
R: I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to Yahweh’s house!”
Reading 2: ROM 13:11-14
The second reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.
Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.
The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light.
Let’s walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
Gospel of the Day: MT 24:37-44
From the gospel verse according to Matthew.
“As the days of Noah were, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ship, and they didn’t know until the flood came and took them all away, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and one will be left.
Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and one will be left.
Watch therefore, for you don’t know in what hour your Lord comes.
But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched, and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.
Therefore also be ready, for in an hour that you don’t expect, the Son of Man will come.”
