The 29th of October, 2022 is Saturday in the Thirtieth Week of Ordinary Time. The Holy Bible verses for the mass readings for this day came from the Liturgical Calendar Year 2022.
Reading 1: PHIL 1:18B-26
The second reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Philippians.
What does it matter? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed. I rejoice in this, yes, and will rejoice.
For I know that this will turn out to my salvation through your prayers and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will in no way be disappointed, but with all boldness, as always, now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
But if I live on in the flesh, this will bring fruit from my work; yet I don’t know what I will choose.
But I am hard pressed between the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.
Yet to remain in the flesh is more needful for your sake.
Having this confidence, I know that I will remain, yes, and remain with you all for your progress and joy in the faith, that your boasting may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my presence with you again.
Responsorial Psalm: PS 42:1, 2, 4CDEF
Response: My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants after you, God.
R: My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
R: My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
How I used to go with the crowd, and led them to God’s house, with the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping a holy day.
R: My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
Gospel of the Day: LK 14:1, 7-11
From the gospel scripture according to Luke.
When he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching him.
He spoke a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the best seats, and said to them, “When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the best seat, since perhaps someone more honorable than you might be invited by him, and he who invited both of you would come and tell you, ‘Make room for this person.’ Then you would begin, with shame, to take the lowest place.
But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may tell you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.
For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
