Daily Gospel Reading for October 16, 2022 – Twenty-Ninth Sunday of Ordinary Time Bible Verse

The 16th of October, 2022 is the Twenty-Ninth Sunday of Ordinary Time. The Bible scriptures for the holy mass readings for this day came from the 2022 Liturgical Calendar.

Reading 1: EX 17:8-13

The first reading from the Book of Exodus.

Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us, and go out to fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”

So Joshua did as Moses had told him, and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

When Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

But Moses’ hands were heavy; so they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.

Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

Responsorial Psalm: PS 121:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8

Response: My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.

I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from?

My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.

R: My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

R: My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.

Yahweh is your keeper. Yahweh is your shade on your right hand.

The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

R: My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.

Yahweh will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul.

Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

R: My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.

Reading 2: 2 TM 3:14-4:2

The second reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to Timothy.

But you remain in the things which you have learned and have been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them.

From infancy, you have known the holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that each person who belongs to God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

I command you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at his appearing and his Kingdom: preach the word; be urgent in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort with all patience and teaching.

Gospel of the Day: LK 18:1-8

From the gospel verse according to Luke.

He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray and not give up, saying, “There was a judge in a certain city who didn’t fear God and didn’t respect man.

A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, ‘Defend me from my adversary!’

He wouldn’t for a while; but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.’_”

The Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says.

Won’t God avenge his chosen ones who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them?

I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
