The 27th of September, 2022, Tuesday is the Memorial of Saint Vincent de Paul, Priest. The Holy Bible verses for the mass readings for this day came from the Liturgical Calendar Year 2022.
Reading 1: JB 3:1-3, 11-17, 20-23
The first reading from the Book of Job.
After this Job opened his mouth, and cursed the day of his birth.
Job answered: “Let the day perish in which I was born, the night which said, ‘There is a boy conceived.’_”
“Why didn’t I die from the womb? Why didn’t I give up the spirit when my mother bore me?
Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breast, that I should nurse?
For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest, with kings and counselors of the earth, who built up waste places for themselves; or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver; or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been, as infants who never saw light.
There the wicked cease from troubling. There the weary are at rest.”
“Why is light given to him who is in misery, life to the bitter in soul, who long for death, but it doesn’t come; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures, who rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?
Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in?”
Responsorial Psalm: PS 88:1-2, 3-4, 5, 6-7
Response: Let my prayer enter into your presence.
Yahweh, the God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before you.
Let my prayer enter into your presence. Turn your ear to my cry.
R: Let my prayer enter into your presence.
For my soul is full of troubles. My life draws near to Sheol.
I am counted among those who go down into the pit. I am like a man who has no help.
R: Let my prayer enter into your presence.
Set apart among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more. They are cut off from your hand.
R: Let my prayer enter into your presence.
You have laid me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths.
Your wrath lies heavily on me. You have afflicted me with all your waves.
R: Let my prayer enter into your presence.
Gospel of the Day: LK 9:51-56
From the gospel scripture according to Luke.
It came to pass, when the days were near that he should be taken up, he intently set his face to go to Jerusalem and sent messengers before his face. They went and entered into a village of the Samaritans, so as to prepare for him.
They didn’t receive him, because he was traveling with his face set toward Jerusalem.
When his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from the sky and destroy them, just as Elijah did?”
But he turned and rebuked them, “You don’t know of what kind of spirit you are.
For the Son of Man didn’t come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.” They went to another village.
