The 23rd of September, 2022, Friday is the Memorial of Saint Pius of Pietrelcina, Priest. The Bible scriptures for the holy mass readings for this day came from the 2022 Liturgical Calendar.
Reading 1: ECCL 3:1-11
The first reading from Ecclesiastes or The Preacher.
For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
What profit has he who works in that in which he labors?
I have seen the burden which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in their hearts, yet so that man can’t find out the work that God has done from the beginning even to the end.
Responsorial Psalm: PS 144:1A and 2ABC, 3-4
Response: Blessed be Yahweh, my rock.
Blessed be Yahweh, my rock.
My loving kindness, my fortress, my high tower, my deliverer, my shield, and he in whom I take refuge.
R: Blessed be Yahweh, my rock.
Yahweh, what is man, that you care for him? Or the son of man, that you think of him?
Man is like a breath. His days are like a shadow that passes away.
R: Blessed be Yahweh, my rock.
Gospel of the Day: LK 9:18-22
From the gospel verse according to Luke.
As he was praying alone, the disciples were near him, and he asked them, “Who do the multitudes say that I am?”
They answered, “‘John the Baptizer,’ but others say, ‘Elijah,’ and others, that one of the old prophets has risen again.”
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”
But he warned them and commanded them to tell this to no one, saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.”
