The 23rd of August, 2022 is Tuesday in the Twenty-First Week of Ordinary Time. The Bible scriptures for the holy mass readings for this day came from the Year 2022 of Liturgical Calendar.
Reading 1: 2 THES 2:1-3A, 14-17
The first reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians.
Now, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, we ask you not to be quickly shaken in your mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter as if from us, saying that the day of Christ has already come.
Let no one deceive you in any way.
To which he called you through our Good News, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold the traditions which you were taught by us, whether by word or by letter.
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good work and word.
Responsorial Psalm: PS 96:10, 11-12, 13
Response: For he comes to judge the earth.
Say among the nations, “Yahweh reigns.” The world is also established. It can’t be moved. He will judge the peoples with equity.
R: For he comes to judge the earth.
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice. Let the sea roar, and its fullness!
Let the field and all that is in it exult! Then all the trees of the woods shall sing for joy.
R: For he comes to judge the earth.
Before Yahweh; for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, the peoples with his truth.
R: For he comes to judge the earth.
Gospel of the Day: MT 23:23-26
From the gospel verse according to Matthew.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!”
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.”
Other Celebration
An optional celebration on this day is the Memorial of Saint Rose of Lima, Virgin.
