Daily Gospel Reading for May 29, 2022, Sunday – The Ascension of the Lord Bible Verse

The 29th of May, 2022, Sunday is this year’s celebration day for the Ascension of the Lord. The Holy Bible verses for the mass readings for this day came from the Liturgical Calendar Year 2022.

Reading 1: ACTS 1:1-11

The first reading from the Acts of the Apostles.

The first book I wrote, Theophilus, concerned all that Jesus began both to do and to teach, until the day in which he was received up, after he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.

To these he also showed himself alive after he suffered, by many proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking about God’s Kingdom.

Being assembled together with them, he commanded them, “Don’t depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which you heard from me.

For John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Therefore, when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, are you now restoring the kingdom to Israel?”

He said to them, “It isn’t for you to know times or seasons which the Father has set within his own authority.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.”

When he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight.

While they were looking steadfastly into the sky as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white clothing, who also said, “You men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who was received up from you into the sky, will come back in the same way as you saw him going into the sky.”

Responsorial Psalm: PS 47:1-2, 5-6, 7-8

Response: God has gone up with a shout, Yahweh with the sound of a trumpet.

Oh clap your hands, all you nations. Shout to God with the voice of triumph!

For Yahweh Most High is awesome. He is a great King over all the earth.

R: God has gone up with a shout, Yahweh with the sound of a trumpet.

God has gone up with a shout, Yahweh with the sound of a trumpet.

Sing praises to God! Sing praises! Sing praises to our King! Sing praises!

R: God has gone up with a shout, Yahweh with the sound of a trumpet.

For God is the King of all the earth. Sing praises with understanding.

God reigns over the nations. God sits on his holy throne.

R: God has gone up with a shout, Yahweh with the sound of a trumpet.

Reading 2: EPH 1:17-23 or HEB 9:24-28; 10:19-23

The second reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians.

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might which he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and made him to sit at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule, authority, power, dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come.

He put all things in subjection under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things for the assembly, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

or second reading from The Letter to the Hebrews.

For Christ hasn’t entered into holy places made with hands, which are representations of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest enters into the holy place year by year with blood not his own, or else he must have suffered often since the foundation of the world. But now once at the end of the ages, he has been revealed to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

In as much as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment, so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh, and having a great priest over God’s house, let’s draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and having our body washed with pure water, let’s hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful.

Gospel of the Day: LK 24:46-53

From the gospel scripture according to Luke.

He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

You are witnesses of these things.

Behold, I send out the promise of my Father on you. But wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high.”

He led them out as far as Bethany, and he lifted up his hands and blessed them.

While he blessed them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven.

They worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
