Daily Gospel Reading for May 18, 2022 – Wednesday in the Fifth Week of Easter Bible Verse

The 18th of May, 2022 is Wednesday in the Fifth Week of Easter. The Bible scriptures for the holy mass readings for this day came from the Year 2022 of Liturgical Calendar.

Reading 1: ACTS 15:1-6

The first reading from the Acts of the Apostles.

Some men came down from Judea and taught the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised after the custom of Moses, you can’t be saved.”

Therefore when Paul and Barnabas had no small discord and discussion with them, they appointed Paul, Barnabas, and some others of them to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders about this question.

They, being sent on their way by the assembly, passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles. They caused great joy to all the brothers.

When they had come to Jerusalem, they were received by the assembly and the apostles and the elders, and they reported everything that God had done with them.

But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.”

The apostles and the elders were gathered together to see about this matter.

Responsorial Psalm: PS 122:1-2, 3-4AB, 4CD-5

Response: I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to Yahweh’s house!”

I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to Yahweh’s house!”

Our feet are standing within your gates, Jerusalem!

R: I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to Yahweh’s house!”

Jerusalem is built as a city that is compact together, where the tribes go up, even Yah’s tribes.

R: I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to Yahweh’s house!”

According to an ordinance for Israel, to give thanks to Yahweh’s name.

For there are set thrones for judgment, the thrones of David’s house.

R: I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to Yahweh’s house!”

Gospel of the Day: JN 15:1-8

From the gospel verse according to John.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer.

Every branch in me that doesn’t bear fruit, he takes away. Every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

You are already pruned clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.

I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

If a man doesn’t remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done for you.”

“In this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; and so you will be my disciples.”

Other Celebration

An optional celebration on this day is the Memorial of Saint John I, Pope and Martyr.
