Daily Gospel Reading for January 3, 2022 – Monday after Epiphany Bible Verse

The 3rd of January, 2022 is Monday after Epiphany as well as the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Jesus. The Holy Bible verses for the mass readings for this day came from the Liturgical Calendar Year 2022.

Reading 1: 1 JN 3:22-4:6

The first reading from the Letter of John.

So whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.

This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.

He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.

Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit who doesn’t confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God; and this is the spirit of the Antichrist, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.

They are of the world. Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them.

We are of God. He who knows God listens to us. He who is not of God doesn’t listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

Responsorial Psalm: PS 2:7BC-8, 10-11

Response: Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance.

Yahweh said to me, “You are my son. Today I have become your father.

Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance, the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession.”

R: Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance.

Now therefore be wise, you kings. Be instructed, you judges of the earth.

Serve Yahweh with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

R: Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance.

Gospel of the Day: MT 4:12-17, 23-25

From the gospel scripture according to Matthew.

Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee.

Leaving Nazareth, he came and lived in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, the people who sat in darkness saw a great light; to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, to them light has dawned.”

From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, “Repent! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.”

Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

The report about him went out into all Syria. They brought to him all who were sick, afflicted with various diseases and torments, possessed with demons, epileptics, and paralytics; and he healed them.

Great multitudes from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from beyond the Jordan followed him.
