Reading 1: ZEC 8:1-8
The first reading from the Book of Zechariah.
The word of Yahweh of Armies came to me.
Yahweh of Armies says: “I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath.”
Yahweh says: “I have returned to Zion, and will dwell in the middle of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called ‘The City of Truth;’ and the mountain of Yahweh of Armies, ‘The Holy Mountain.’_”
Yahweh of Armies says: “Old men and old women will again dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, every man with his staff in his hand because of their old age.
The streets of the city will be full of boys and girls playing in its streets.”
Yahweh of Armies says: “If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvelous in my eyes?” says Yahweh of Armies.
Yahweh of Armies says: “Behold, I will save my people from the east country and from the west country.
I will bring them, and they will dwell within Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.”
Responsorial Psalm: PS 102:15-17, 18-20, 28 and 21-22
Response: For Yahweh has built up Zion. He has appeared in his glory.
So the nations will fear Yahweh’s name, all the kings of the earth your glory.

He has responded to the prayer of the destitute, and has not despised their prayer.

This will be written for the generation to come. A people which will be created will praise Yah, for he has looked down from the height of his sanctuary. From heaven, Yahweh saw the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoner, to free those who are condemned to death.

“The children of your servants will continue. Their offspring will be established before you.”
That men may declare Yahweh’s name in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem, when the peoples are gathered together, the kingdoms, to serve Yahweh.

Gospel of the Day: LK 9:46-50
From the gospel verse according to Luke.
An argument arose among them about which of them was the greatest.
Jesus, perceiving the reasoning of their hearts, took a little child, and set him by his side, and said to them, “Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me. Whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For whoever is least among you all, this one will be great.”
John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he doesn’t follow with us.”
Jesus said to him, “Don’t forbid him, for he who is not against us is for us.”
