The 3rd of February, 2021 is Wednesday in the Fourth Week of Ordinary Time. The Holy Bible verses for the mass readings for this day came from the Liturgical Calendar Year 2021.
Reading 1: HEB 12:4-7, 11-15
The first reading from The Letter to the Hebrews.
You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin.
You have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, “My son, don’t take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives.”
It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline?
All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Therefore lift up the hands that hang down and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.
Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man will see the Lord, looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you and many be defiled by it.
Responsorial Psalm: PS 103:1-2, 13-14, 17-18A
Response: But Yahweh’s loving kindness is from everlasting to everlasting with those who fear him, his righteousness to children’s children.
Praise Yahweh, my soul! All that is within me, praise his holy name!
Praise Yahweh, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits.
R: But Yahweh’s loving kindness is from everlasting to everlasting with those who fear him, his righteousness to children’s children.
Like a father has compassion on his children, so Yahweh has compassion on those who fear him.
For he knows how we are made. He remembers that we are dust.
R: But Yahweh’s loving kindness is from everlasting to everlasting with those who fear him, his righteousness to children’s children.
But Yahweh’s loving kindness is from everlasting to everlasting with those who fear him, his righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep his covenant.
R: But Yahweh’s loving kindness is from everlasting to everlasting with those who fear him, his righteousness to children’s children.
Gospel of the Day: MK 6:1-6
From the gospel scripture according to Mark.
He went out from there. He came into his own country, and his disciples followed him.
When the Sabbath had come, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things?” and, “What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands?
Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James, Joses, Judah, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” So they were offended at him.
Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house.”
He could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them.
He marveled because of their unbelief.
Other Celebration
An optional celebration on this day is the Memorial of Saint Blaise, Bishop and Martyr as well as Saint Ansgar, Bishop.
