The 19th of January, 2021 is Tuesday in the Second Week of Ordinary Time. The Bible scriptures for the holy mass readings for this day came from the Year 2021 of Liturgical Calendar.
Reading 1: HEB 6:10-20
The first reading from The Letter to the Hebrews.
For God is not unrighteous, so as to forget your work and the labor of love which you showed toward his name, in that you served the saints, and still do serve them.
We desire that each one of you may show the same diligence to the fullness of hope even to the end, that you won’t be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and perseverance inherited the promises.
For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he could swear by no one greater, he swore by himself, saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”
Thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
For men indeed swear by a greater one, and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.
In this way God, being determined to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and entering into that which is within the veil, where as a forerunner Jesus entered for us, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
Responsorial Psalm: PS 111:1-2, 4-5, 9 and 10C
Response: He has given food to those who fear him. He always remembers his covenant.
Praise Yah! I will give thanks to Yahweh with my whole heart, in the council of the upright, and in the congregation.
Yahweh’s works are great, pondered by all those who delight in them.
R: He has given food to those who fear him. He always remembers his covenant.
He has caused his wonderful works to be remembered. Yahweh is gracious and merciful.
He has given food to those who fear him. He always remembers his covenant.
R: He has given food to those who fear him. He always remembers his covenant.
He has sent redemption to his people. He has ordained his covenant forever. His name is holy and awesome!
His praise endures forever!
R: He has given food to those who fear him. He always remembers his covenant.
Gospel of the Day: MK 2:23-28
From the gospel verse according to Mark.
He was going on the Sabbath day through the grain fields; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of grain.
The Pharisees said to him, “Behold, why do they do that which is not lawful on the Sabbath day?”
He said to them, “Did you never read what David did when he had need and was hungry-he, and those who were with him?
How he entered into God’s house at the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the show bread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and gave also to those who were with him?”
He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.
Therefore the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
